FROM ANDY MAXWELL'S FOSTER MOM!

Our little guy has a lot of personality! He is rather timid, though. He wants to be around my dogs and I all the time; if he can’t see me, he panics so this is something I am trying to work on. He follows my dogs around a lot wanting to play, but they are both old and crochety, so they aren’t much interested. I took him to a friend’s yesterday to play with her dogs and that went pretty well. He loves everyone, and has the sweetest temperament. He loves to cuddle, and I think will be kind of a Velcro dog and a wonderful addition to a family with another playful pup.

Last night, he managed to get up the stairs and strand himself. He was too afraid to try to come down; he sure let me know he was up there alone and not happy about it. We are making progress on the leash, and I think he’ll be terrific on that soon with a harness. He gets so excited he wants to jump around. I did get him to sit for a treat this morning, so we will see if we can duplicate it. I love watching him gallop around when he gets the zoomies; I can’t let him free range in the yard yet, because he is slender enough to potentially slip through the fence pickets, so I keep him leashed while we’re outside.

Andy does tend to hyperfocus when he wants something. Although he responds when you call him off chewing something he shouldn’t, he often tries to go back. I have taken to calling him Andrew Maxwell when he’s into something. Sternly voiced, this seems to be working well. He can be redirected to his chew toys with a little effort. He loves his chew toys, but I have only been able to get him to chase a tennis ball once or twice; he did bring it right back to me when he did, though! He’s a smart boy and just wants to please you, so I think he’ll be easily trained.

I have discovered that he flinches if your hand comes around his head, so letting him see your hands move before you get near his head is necessary right now.  He’s still a little timid, but I’m working on getting him around people and other dogs so he can be his sweet, outgoing self all the time.

ANDY IS NOW FULLY VETTED INCLUDING BEING NEUTERED!  IF YOU THINK YOU ARE THE FAMILY FOR ANDY, PLEASE GO TO WWW.ALLMUTTSMATTER.ORG AND APPLY FOR HIM!!
